Raspbian neues Release

Heute ist Stammtischzeit:

  • Verstehe ich richtig dass für USB-Boot jetzt nur noch das aktuelle Image (mit z.B. dd)
    auf den USB-Stick gebracht werden muß
    und der RPI3 mit "program_usb_boot_mode=1" in config.txt gebootet werden muß
    um vom USB-Stick booten zu können?

  • Ich verstehe das eher so, das man das Image nur noch auf den USB Stick klatschen muss, in den Pi steckt und das war's. Eben Ohne jeglicher Modifikation.

    Dieses Feature wird ja schon seit längerem vom ROM unterstützt, nur das Image war noch nicht so weit.

    Habe eben das aktuelle Image auf einen Stick "geklatscht". Funktioniert.


    Ob man vorher den RPI mit "program_usb_boot_mode=1"
    USB-bootfähig machen muß konnte ich nicht testen
    weil ich meinen RPI3 schon früher mal USB-bootfähig gemacht habe.

  • Ja, man muss einen "frischen" Pi3 zuerst per SD modifizieren.

    Bei einem neuen Pi3, der noch nicht "modifiziert" wurde, funktioniert das sonst nicht !!

    Mein alter Pi3, für den ich mal eine USB Anleitung geschrieben habe, hat den Stick unverändert und einwandfrei gebootet.
    Mein neuer Pi3, den ich vor kurzem über eine Aktion billiger bekommen habe, verweigert jeglichen Boot mit dem selben Stick.

    Es muss also das BootBit im SoC vom Pi nach wie vor geändert werden, welches dafür zuständig ist, damit der Pi3 von USB oder Netzwerk booten kann.

    Dieses Bit wird in einem OTP Speicher gesetzt (One-Time-Programable) und das kann nur von einem laufendem System aus gesetzt werden.
    D.h.: für eine Umstellung dieses Bits ist zwingend von einer SD Karte zu booten und diese Änderung durchzuführen.

    Was also bringt also das neue Image ??

    Man spart sich das manuelle modifizieren, ergänzen und kopieren des SD Images auf den USB Stick.

    Er reicht also das Modifizieren des oben genannten Bits des Pi3 von einer SD Karte aus und kann anschließend das originale Image direkt auf den USB Stick flashen.

    Wichtig: Nicht die leere SSH Datei im Root vergessen, sonst brauchts wieder Monitor und Tastatur aber das ist unabhängig, wovon man bootet.

    Gerade getestet. ;):D

    PS: Mir kommt der Pi mit dem USB Stick nach wie vor langsamer vor, als mit SD Karte aber ich glaube, das wurde von meigrafd bereits erklärt.

    PPS: Die Foundation sollte dieses Bit in zukünftigen Pi3 und höher gleich freischalten, dann könnte man sich den Umweg mit der SD Karte sparen ....
    (Bisher wurde es wohl deaktiviert, weil es experimentell war, nehme ich an.)

    The main reason this was released is to improve compatibility with older SD card copiers. They're commonly used to flash SD cards by distributors, for jams, classrooms and so on. Some of these try to recreate the partition table and copy the files rather than doing a block by block copy. The metadata_csum feature is relatively new and unsupported by many of these, resulting in corrupted sd cards. The previous release has caused a bit of panic for some people when they found that their cards weren't working.

    Sie heißen jetzt nicht mehr ethX und wlanx sondern z.B. "ens0" oder "enp1s1" (ethernet) oder "wlp3s0" (wlan)

    Das sind immer die Schmankerl, auf die (wohl nicht nur) ich gut und gerne verzichten könnte:
    wheezy-->jessie: Automount-Verzeichnisse von /media auf /media/pi geändert
    jessie-->stretch: Netzwerk-Interfaces umbenannt (siehe oben)

    Die Hauptsache ist, dass die alten Programme nicht mehr funktionieren. Ich hab ja sonst nix zu tun :baeh2:
    ...und mir ist schon klar, dass das nicht Raspbian selbst ist, sondern das zugrunde liegende Debian.

    Edit: hab mir stretch mal runtergeladen, "wlan0" ist bei meinen RPI 3 so geblieben, "eth0" ist jetzt "enxxx...."
