I'm planning on placing a DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor about 30m away from my Pi. Is that possible? What kind of cable would be suitable for this?

Connecting DHT22 over long distance (30m)? Schau mal ob du hier fündig wirst!

Hi there,
You should use a good and shielded cable e.g. a CAT 6 or CAT 7. You only solder 3 of the 8 wires. I've had very good experiences with this.Work with 5V, but you definitely measure what voltage still arrives on the way back, i.e. on the serial port (GPIO) !
It must not be more than 3.3 volts. You can use a logic level converter to ensure this, e.g .: https://www.amazon.de/Converter-Pegelwandler-BiDirektional-Raspberry-Mikrocontroller/dp/B07DKT9JXT/ref=sr_1_5?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=MCUV9779C3PA&keywords=levelshifter%2B3%2C3%2Bzu%2B5v&qid=1637667400&sprefix=levelshift%2Caps%2C167&sr=8-5&th=1&tag=psblog-21 [Anzeige]

Hello,
I'm not shure, but I think that's not possible. Can you tell us something about the environment? Do you have W-Lan?
So you can use something like a ESP32 to connect the DHT22 and send data to the Raspberry Pi.
Greetings
Dennis

Thanks for your replies. Well the DHT22 will be placed inside a Pelicase underground (~50cm), so not sure about wifi.

Sure, 30 meters is quite a long distance. But relatively easy to test. If the connection with the cable works, it will do the same regardless of the location.
Greetings, Holger
